The Joy of Louis’ Western Life

By Mark Brosnan and Douglas DeAngelis

The joy of western life
Is a pearl of great price
Sealed and sent my way
By the not so secret sharer

Blessed with the indwelling of the pioneer spirit
Now distant and often lost
He made you feel that fire of life
I'll be a cowboy at any cost

He taught the prairie parables
You can only learn while mounted
As you pass the final fence
Home is far away while hours wait uncounted

He spoke proudly of his empty land
Five years to prove up living there
From his homestead to the judgment day
Waves of grassland in his care

Gladly to greet all we would meet
Making medicine on the prairie
When the weather spoke
The wind had the most to say

He told me horses are the masters here
If we are true, we know
Our saddle flair is much hot air
It is our mounts that make things go

He who has the final say
Knows about the Cowboy way
Brought him to the sacred place
Now he rides at his own pace

All these things bring joy
In a Western life so grand
We of course understand it clearly
To those that don’t we’ll lend a hand
