In evening clear, the moon is a sight
that begs our devotion as the queen of the night
Some like the tale of the lost Holy Grail,
but others must search til they find it
Neil was a man that wished his toes in the sand
on the shore of sea of tranquility
But to fly that high, beyond the reachable sky
in his youth but a dreamed of ability
The hatteras wind, cold in the winter,
lifted two brothers and a nation to industry
In his aero devotion Neil longed for great height
And a way for our spirit to join him in flight
A warm summer day saw the ultimate sight
with our cleverness strained that long afternoon
While machines, great minds, and red white and blue hearts,
carried our man to the moon
As grand as it was when we saw that he landed,
he launched something much greater still
Neil put his boot print with a helping of moon dust
square on the butt of the national will
Having survived this emotional ride,
we were bursting, alive, with pioneer’s pride
And for one brief moment frozen in time
we were a nation as sincere as a child
Our people were united like never before
The far reaches of space were brought to our door
We watched and our lives changed with that one small stride
The country lost in a frenzy of space induced pride
Suddenly Nova and Telstar were the names of our cars
The Milky Way now a sought after bar
We lived Lost in Space in front of our Quasar TV’s
The needs of the many, from Spock, we did see
All summer long we camped under the stars
With our space blankets pulled up, tucked under our chins
Sipping Tang from our thermos’, awake through the night
We talked of the moon and dreamed about Mars
